- Use the genuine Nikon FTZ II; switch off the camera before mounting.
- Follow Nikon's instruction to update camera firmware. The documents specify no minimum Z8, lens or adapter version for these combinations.
- AF-S G and AF-P G models support AF; the AF D model requires manual focus. All five retain manual focus assistance and P/S/A/M exposure support.
- Set the 50mm f/1.8D aperture ring to f/22 before mounting; select the shooting aperture on the camera.
Where it stops
- Do not generalize to non-AI, IX-NIKKOR, F3AF or the other mechanically excluded lenses and serial ranges in Nikon's guide. Stop if mounting meets resistance.
- AF-P focus can shift after a power cycle; refocus. Electronic rangefinding and AF can need verification on difficult subjects.
- Synchro VR is unavailable through FTZ II. Exact stabilization effectiveness and burst rates remain unverified.
