ShutterLens compares what the manufacturer publishes about a camera's mount and sensor with what it publishes about a lens's mount and image circle, then applies the documented rules for adapters and crops. We have not mounted every combination ourselves. What you get is a careful reading of the documentation, with the documentation linked.
The catalog has 43 cameras and 99 lenses, backed by 155 manufacturer references, last reviewed September 7, 2026. Each reference shows the date we read it.
The five results
- Native fit
- The lens mounts directly and covers the camera's sensor. This is the basic connection. On its own it says nothing about autofocus, stabilization, video, or burst features.
- Fits with a crop
- The lens mounts directly, but it was designed for an APS-C sensor and only covers the middle of a full-frame one. The camera records a cropped image with fewer pixels and a narrower view.
- Adapter needed
- The mounts differ, but the manufacturer documents an adapter between them: the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R or the Nikon FTZ and FTZ II. An adapted lens can also involve a crop or manual focus, so read the notes.
- Fits with limitations
- The lens mounts, but a documented restriction on this body or lens matters. The Nikon AF 50mm f/1.8D on the D3500, for example, needs manual focus and manual exposure with no metering.
- No native fit
- The mounts do not connect directly, and we have no documented adapter route. Third-party adapters may exist; we have not evaluated them. Canon EF-S lenses cannot mount on full-frame Canon EF DSLRs at all.
Mount and coverage are separate questions
Canon RF-S lenses share the RF mount but cover APS-C. Nikon Z DX lenses share the Z mount but cover APS-C. Sony E and FE lenses share the E mount; FE means full-frame coverage. Fujifilm XF and XC lenses are all APS-C, and so are the X-mount cameras in the catalog.
Full-frame lenses work on APS-C bodies with the same mount. The “equivalent” focal lengths on the site describe how the view compares with full frame: 1.6× for Canon APS-C and 1.5× for Nikon, Sony, and Fujifilm APS-C. Manufacturers round their sensor sizes differently, so the exact number can vary slightly. The lens's real focal length and f-number never change, and the equivalent figure says nothing about depth of field or extra video crops.
What is in the catalog, and what is not
The catalog covers selected first-party Canon RF, RF-S, EF, and EF-S gear, Nikon Z and F gear, Sony E-mount gear, and Fujifilm X gear. It includes some older bodies because people still own them. It is not a complete list of what is on sale.
Third-party lenses and adapters, Canon EF-M, Sony A-mount, Micro Four Thirds, L-Mount, Fujifilm GFX, teleconverters, and cinema gear are not covered. If something is missing, it has not been evaluated. Missing does not mean incompatible.
Nikon F deserves a special warning. The mount has decades of mechanical and electronic exceptions. Our rules cover only the AF-S G, AF-P, and screw-drive AF-D lenses listed here on the bodies listed here, plus their documented FTZ routes. Do not stretch them to other F-mount lenses. The FTZ manual lists whole lens families, and even serial-number ranges, that do not work.
Firmware can change what a pairing supports. If you depend on a specific feature, check the manufacturer's manual or compatibility lookup for your exact camera, lens, adapter, and firmware.
Feature-by-feature research
For 60 pairs we went past the mount check and looked up individual features in the manuals: autofocus, stabilization, burst rate, crop behavior, aperture control, and more. That research was done by AI agents reading manufacturer documents, with a second pass checking every citation and no hands-on testing. How it works and what it found. We check corrections against the documentation and update the record, its source, and the affected pairs together. There is no fixed schedule or response time.
